A report from the House of Commons Transport Committee claims that investment in new infrastructure work should not take away from average investments in the classic rail network from 2014 onwards. It also seems that the infrastructure work is creating more engineer jobs UK. The Chairman Louise Ellman stated that:
‘It’s paramount we do not deprive future generations of a lasting legacy of good transport services. Investments made now or in the near future should reflect long-term needs of the economy and society.’
The committee discovered the Manchester Hub as a clear priority to overcome problems on the rail services throughout northern England, including Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle. Advance electrification of the network, especially in the Midland Main Line between London and Sheffield, should also be given top priority. On the basis of this report, it will surely boost civil engineering recruitment in UK.
This news has been received as it is required to boost the engineering jobs. Last week, a poll of over 200 engineers disclosed that the majority thought British engineering had become ’a shadow of its former self’.
