Define your goals
Goal destinations are the things that are important to you. Another word for them would be ambitions, but ambitions sound like something which outside of your grasp, whereas goal destinations are certainly achievable if you are willing to put in the effort working towards them. e.g. Do you want customers to find you? Do you want to be on the front page of Google? Are you all about selling more services and product?
Research Keywords
No doubt about it, keyword research is the first, and possibly most vital, step in the Search Engine Optimisation process.
Choosing the right keywords is more than just analysing the numbers and this is a free and easy way to combine the raw data with your marketing intuition to find a successful combination sure to bring success to your site. The information gathered from running a couple of keyword searches is extremely valuable when it comes to writing posts that are targeted and meant to highlight specific information.
Educate the consumer
When starting a blog that revolves around your small business the general tendency is to want to publish a bunch of SPAM posts that extol your virtues. While it is okay to do this once and a while, I have found that educating the consumer works tremendously well and is highly effective.
Researching your competition
Knowing what the competition does right (and wrong), what they charge for their products or services, and where they seem to be headed can give your business a significant boost. The good news is that it need not be difficult nor expensive to discover this as, once again, technology has leveled the playing field.
After that, you should conduct a general search of any company using keywords for:
* The company’s name,
* The owner’s name,
* Product names.
Keep it simple
Business blog posts do not have to be extravagant Pulitzer Prize worthy affairs. If you should find yourself stuck for topics, or are facing blogger’s block.
Be consistent
Quite possibly the most important piece of advice for any small business blogger - You NEED to be consistent in your efforts.
